The Barton Visitor Centre, provided by Lancashire Aero Club is designed to provide a focal point for visitors. The Centre, or 'BVC' as it is known, is situated in the main Aerodrome Car Park. By providing this facility, Lancashire Aero Club hope to encourage people to become involved in aviation. Through the BVC, Lancashire Aero Club are able to hold talks for schools and other interested parties, and are able to cater for the public during the Summer months, when people like to just visit and watch the various goings on around the airfield. The BVC provides a safe place where people can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Inside the BVC is also a museum.
Tours of the airfield organised by Lancashire Aero Club are available free of charge for groups. Tours include a look around the whole airfield site, taking in old air raid shelters, hangars, maintenance and control tower, and contain detailed information on Barton past and present. Tours/Educational Visits Tours are available for groups of all ages from aged 4 to GNVQ students and beyond! Groups can be accommodated at most times during the day and the tours can be tailor-made to meet the needs of the group. Trained guides with a vast knowledge of the airport accompany groups on a two hour tour visit, typically involving a one hour guided tour and a visit to the Tour Centre itself. The programme provides a balanced input to ensure that educational targets are met, combining a fun trip with an educational visit. Tours are chargeable and pre-booking is essential.
