Nestling in the shadows of the twin castles of Beeston and Peckforton lies one of Cheshire's most unusual tourist attractions – Cheshire Ice Cream Farm. Offering a wonderful opportunity to see a dairy farm at work, where you can wander at your own leisure and enjoy, not only the ice cream but a whole menu of home made food in The Country Kitchen. You can see the calves bred from the herd and through the milking parlour windows you can watch the herd of over 300 cows providing the ingredients for their very own dairy ice cream. You can sample the flavours of ice cream and sorbets before you decide on your purchase. As well as ice cream there is the traditional unpasteurised Cheshire Cheese now being made at the farm alongside a museum of old cheese making equipment. Production can be seen daily –except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

You can watch the ancient craft of candlemaking, creating beautfully designs and coloured candles which are exported throughout the world. See the unique candle dipping ferris wheel, built by a local craftsman and standing over thirty feet high, it is the only one of its kind in the country, if not the world. The workshops are a delight for children of all ages. They can try their hand at candlemaking, go birdwatching in the aviary or just have a great time burning off energy in the play area.

You can browse in the two-story shop/showroom displaying an attractive range of stoneware (their specialities include oven and microwave ware, lamps, castle bowls, vases, planters and indoor fountains). There is an adjacent workshop where locals and visitors can try their hands at producing pots on "Making Days". For as little as £30 (including lunch) you can spend a whole day working with clay in a small group(maximum 8 people) under Joy and Ken's expert guidance.

If you are interested in embroidery this is a wonderful mural which was embroidered by the St Annes Broderers - it is 18 ft long and 6ft 5 ins high and contains 2,166,528 stitches. It comprises seven individual panels, each depicting various aspects of the life and times of St Annes. Embroidering began in April 1989 and took almost seven years to complete. The mural won a national award from the Age Resource Council and judges commented "You must see for yourself the immense beauty of the colours and textures of this Mural. The St Annes Broderers have every right to feel proud as the mural will give pleasure and inspiration for hundreds of years."

Manchester Craft and Design Centre is a unique organisation comprising 18 retail/studio spaces, an excellent cafe and a rolling programme of exhibitions from leading national and international makers of original contemporary craft. Located in Manchester city centre's Northern Quarter, Manchester Craft and Design Centre is at the hub of a growing innovative and artistic community. It is one of the few places in the UK open to the public where contemporary craft is individually produced and sold on the premises.
