VANCOUVER - ROCKIES - ALASKA CRUISE

28TH MAY -16TH JUNE, 2001

Day 1 Fly to Vancouver. Transatlantic daytime flight to Vancouver, with meal and snack included. Optional in-flight movie and bar service. On arrival you will be met by our uniformed Cosmos representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 Vancouver. Choose from our selection of optional excursions, including a gondola ride to dinner atop Grouse Mountain, helicopter or seaplane flight-seeing, a dinner cruise at sunset, or a ride on the Royal Hudson steam train for a cliff-hugging tour along the Coast Mountains.

Day 3 Vancouver. Included sightseeing meet your travelling companions at a continental breakfast reception this morning before heading out for sightseeing, including Stanley Park, Chinatown and quaint Gastown as well as the harbour and breaches. For the afternoon, shoppers and browsers can take a water taxi to lively Granville Island with its outdoor markets, street musicians, entertainers, and waterfront cafes. Or visit historic Gastown with its steam-powered clock, antique shops, art galleries and street vendors.

Day 4 Vancouver – Kelowna. Travel east to the resort city of Kelowna attractively set on the shores of Okanagan Lake and surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Sample the local wines on the included winery tour this afternoon.

Day 5 Kelowna – Rogers Pass – Banff National Park. On to Glacier National Park, where the coach climbs to 4,379-foot-high Rogers Pass. Stop for lunch at the pass, a perfect spot for photos of the impressively steep mountain cliffs and surrounding glaciers. Then over Kicking Horse Pass, peaking at 5,421 feet. By early evening reach Banff National park, gateway to the majestic Canadian Rockies.

Day 6 Banff. Visit to Lake Louse. Today take our included sightseeing excursion to Moraine Lake, a Canadian icon and then on to exquisite Lake Louse, its cold waters a perfect natural mirror reflecting the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Why not hire a canoe while you enjoy the fresh mountain air?

Day 7 Banff. A full day to explore the Banff area, one of Canada’s favourite year-round resorts. This morning Cosmos has arranged for an optional helicopter ride high over the Canadian Rockies. For the afternoon, join the included visit to Sulphur Mountain for a thrilling gondola ride, complete with panoramic views of Banff’s spectacular scenery.

Day 8 Banff- Columbia Icefield-Jasper National Park. Included dinner. A highlight on today’s agenda is a stop at the Columbia Icefield for a snowcoach ride over the 1000-foot-thick Athabasca Glacier. This afternoon join our optional raft trip down the historic Athabasca River. Special treat tonight is an included dinner featuring local delicacies. Your accommodation for the next two nights is in Jasper National Park. (Unfavourable weather conditions may affect the availability of the Columbia Icefield snowcoach excursion.

Day 9 Jasper – Included sightseeing. A short excursion to see Jasper’s unspoiled beauty including glistening Pyramid Lake. Afterwards, why not join the optional trip to Malign Lake, where you embark on a narrated cruise of the lake? On the return journey, a stop to view mighty Maligne Canyon. With much of the afternoon and evening free, you might take a hike along the trails and look for majestic elk, or enjoy a canoe trip on Pyramid Lake.

Day 10 Jasper – Mount Robson - Sun Peaks. Leave Jasper following the Fraser River to the base of spectacular Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, peaking at 12,972 feet. The Yellowhead Highway continues south along the mighty Thompson River with spectacular vistas of the Manashee Mountains. Overnight in the alpine setting of Sun Peaks.

Day 11 Sun Peaks – ferry crossing – Victoria – Butchart Gardens. Watch the vegetation change abruptly as you leave lush mountain forests and reach desert landscape in a matter of a few miles. Sail this afternoon across the Strait of Georgia and through the spectacular Gulf Islands an archipelago known for its Mediterranean-type climate. Afternoon arrival in Victoria. Sightseeing here includes world-famous Butchart Gardens, marine Drive, Bastion Square and Thunderbird Park with its unusual collection of totem poles.

Day 12 Victoria. A full free day. Be sure to discover some of the attractions this splendid city has to offer including the Royal British Columbia Museum, afternoon tea at the Empress Hotel, whale watching on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the National Geographic IMAX theatre, and fine shopping along Government Street. Suggestion for this evening is an optional outing that includes a carriage ride through Beacon ill Park, followed by a delightful dinner at one of Victoria’s waterfront restaurants.

Day 13 Vancouver – Cruise Departure. Afternoon transfer to the Holland America Cruise terminal for embarkation, where your luxury cruise ship awaits you. Sailing time is around 5 pm. This evening enjoy a lavish a-la-carte dinner.

Day 14 Inside Passage Cruising. 1000 miles of epic scenery, towering glaciated mountains, roaring waterfalls, endless islands and virgin rain forests. Your ship threads her course past forests, islands and inlets, surrounded by silence. You glimpse a deep fjord and far to the east the sun glints on sow-capped peaks. There is plenty of animal and marine life to look out for seal lions, eagles and porpoises.

Day 15 Cruising – Juneau. An afternoon arrival in Juneau, Alaska’s lovely capital. Juneau has a Gold Rush story to rival that of Klondike, and is only accessible by seaplane or boat. An optional wildlife cruise and salmon fishing will normally be available. You may also opt to tour Juneau’s own glacier, Mendenhall. This impressive river of blue ice is about 1 ½ miles wide and over 12 miles long.

Day 16 Cruising – Skagway. Morning arrival in Skagway Alaska’s gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada’s Yukon. Skagway was the turbulent staging point for prospector and still boasts weathered boardwalks and old-time saloons. Optional sightseeing includes a ride in a vintage parlour car to see the White Pass and Yukon route. The rest of the day is free. Set sail again late this evening.

Day 17 Cruising – Glacier Bay. Cruise into spectacular Glacier Bay early this morning. Forests give way to a rugged landscape rising to rocky peaks. Sixteen huge mountains converge to create an awe inspiring panoramic wonder, a spectacular scene of awesome glaciers and massive icebergs. Wildlife is abundant and you may spot eagles, seals, mountain goats, moose and bears in their natural habitat.

Day 18 Cruising – Ketchikan. A mid-morning arrival in colourful Ketchikan, situated on Revillagigedo Island and known as the ‘Salmon Capital of the World.’ Here a picturesque harbour shelters fishing boats and seaplanes. A wide choice of optional excursions will be available including an outing to see Indian Heritage Villages, Totem Bight State Park and flight-seeing to Misty Fjords National Monument. Mid-evening departure from Ketchikan.

Day 19 Cruising. Continue cruising south along British Columbia’s spectacular coastline. Animal and marine life are abundant in this area and with a little luck you may spot a pad of mighty yet graceful, killer whales.

Day 20 Vancouver – Return to the UK. On arrival at the cruise terminal, you will be met by your uniformed Cosmos rep and transferred to Vancouver airport for your overnight flight home.

Day 21. Home land in the UK.
